一、形容詞的概述

1、形容詞: clever聰明的, dry干的, fat胖的, golden金色, good好的, heavy重的, square方的

2、此外，現(xiàn)在分詞(ing形式)和過去分詞(ed形式)也可以當(dāng)形容詞用。

1)現(xiàn)在分詞作形容詞時(如amusing有趣的，boring無聊的，tiring使人疲倦的)是主動語態(tài)，指產(chǎn)生某種效果或感觸。

2)過去分詞作形容詞時(如amused感到有趣，horrified感到恐怖，tired感到疲倦)是被動語態(tài)，指所受影響是怎樣的。

The play was boring.(Theaudience was bored.)這場演出沒意思。(觀眾感到?jīng)]意思。)

The work wastiring.(The workers were soon tired.)這是一項繁重的工作。(工人們很快就累

3、在許多形容詞和分詞后可跟介詞：good at等于tired of對……感到疲倦

4、有些形容詞只能用作表語，不能在名詞前作定語，這類形容詞可稱為表語形容詞，如：ill，well，sorry，glad，afraid，ashamed，asleep，awake，away，alike(還有其他以a-開始的詞)。

正確用法：He isalone. I saw himalone.

錯句：He isan alone man.(應(yīng)用lonely或lonesome)

The alone womanhas lived here many years.(lonely)

若在名詞前作定語，可改用其他形容詞，如可以用sick代替ill，以happy代替glad，frightened代替afraid。有個別這類詞可作定語，但意思有變化，如：

what a sorry(可悲的) thing!

This is a glad(令人高興的)day for us.

5、另一方面，有些形容詞只能用作定語，不能用作表語，如：left，right，inner，outer，upper，elder，eldest，latter，wooden，woolen，golden

His elderbrother is fifteen.(正確)

His brother iselder.(錯誤)

His left hand iswounded.(正確)

His wounded handis left.(錯誤)

He has a woodenhouse.(正確)

His house iswooden.(錯誤)

但在用于引伸意義時，有些這類形容詞可以這樣用，如：

His future looksgolden.(正確)

二、形容詞的比較級和最高級

1、絕大多數(shù)形容詞有三種形式,原級,比較級和最高級, 以表示形容詞說明的性質(zhì)在程度上的不同。

1)形容詞的原級: 形容詞的原級形式就是詞典中出現(xiàn)的形容詞的原形。例如: poor tall great glad bad。

2)形容詞的比較級和最高級: 形容詞的比較級和最高級形式是在形容詞的原級形式的基礎(chǔ)上變化的。分為規(guī)則變化和不規(guī)則變化。

3)規(guī)則變化如下:

①單音節(jié)形容詞的比較級和最高級形式是在詞尾加 -er 和 -est 構(gòu)成。

great (原級) greater(比較級) greatest(最高級)

②以-e 結(jié)尾的單音節(jié)形容詞的比較級和最高級是在詞尾加-r 和-st 構(gòu)成。

wide (原級) wider(比較級) widest(最高級)

③少數(shù)以-y, -er, -ow, -ble結(jié)尾的雙音節(jié)形容詞的比較級和最高級是在詞尾加-er 和-est 構(gòu)成。

clever(原級)cleverer(比較級)cleverest(最高級)

④以-y結(jié)尾,但-y 前是輔音字母的形容詞的比較級和最高級是把-y去掉,加上-ier和-est 構(gòu)成.

happy (原形) happier(比較級) happiest(最高級)

⑤以一個輔音字母結(jié)尾其前面的元音字母發(fā)短元音的形容詞的比較級和最高級是雙寫該輔音字母然后再加-er和-est。

big (原級) bigger(比較級) biggest(最高級)

⑥雙音節(jié)和多音節(jié)形容詞的比較級和最高級需用more 和 most 加在形容詞前面來構(gòu)成。

⑦常用的不規(guī)則變化的形容詞的比較級和最高級:

old	elder ( older )	eldest（僅指人）(oldest)（指人和物）

⑧形容詞前如加 less 和 least 則表示"較不"和"最不"

important重要 lessimportant 較不重要 least important最不重要

2、形容詞比較級的用法:形容詞的比較級用于兩個人或事物的比較,其結(jié)構(gòu)形式如下: 主語+謂語(系動詞)+ 形容詞比較級+than+ 對比成分。

也就是, 含有形容詞比較級的主句+than+從句。注意從句常常省去意義上和主句相同的部分, 而只剩下對比的成分。

Our teacher isthanwe are.

我們老師的個子比我們的高。

It istoday than it was yesterday.

今天的天氣比昨天暖和。

This picture isthan that one.

這張照片比那張照片漂亮。

This meeting isthan that one.

這次會議不如那次會議重要。

The sun isthan the moon.

太陽比月亮大得多。

3、形容詞最高級的用法:形容詞最高級用于兩個以上的人和物進(jìn)行比較, 其結(jié)構(gòu)形式為: 主語+謂語(系動詞)+the+形容詞最高級+名詞+表示范圍的短語或從句。

She isstudenther class.

她是班上最好的學(xué)生。

Shanghai is oneofcitiesChina.

上海是中國最大城市之一

This isapple I have ever met.

這是我見到的最大的蘋果。

Tom isboy in his basketball team.

湯姆是他們籃球隊中個子最高的孩子。

4、farther/farthest和further/furthest這些形式都可以指距離。

1)further同樣可以指“另外的/更多的”，主要和抽象名詞一起用：

Further supplieswill soon be available.

很快會得到更多的供應(yīng)。

Furtherdiscussion/debate would be pointless.

繼續(xù)討論/辯論是無意義的。

2)furthest同樣可以和抽象名詞連用來表示“最遠(yuǎn)的”：

This was thefurthest point they reached in their discussion.他們在討論中最遠(yuǎn)就談到這里。

This was thefurthest concession he would make.

這是他肯做出的最大的讓步。

5、elder，eldest;older，oldest

1)elder和eldest主要表示的是長幼順序而非年齡大小。主要用于表示家庭成員之間的長幼關(guān)系，如myelder brother(我的兄長/哥哥)，her eldest boy/girl(她的長子/長女)。

2)但在than前不能用elder，只能用older：

He is older thanI am.他比我年齡大。

6、各種表示比較的句子結(jié)構(gòu)

1)形容詞的原級可與as…as連用表示“和……同樣……”，與not as/so…as連用表不“不如……那樣……”：

A boy of sixteenis often as tall as his father.

一個16歲的男孩常長得和他父親一樣高。

He was as whiteas a sheet.他面色蒼白如紙。

Your coffee isnot as/so good as the coffee my mother makes.你煮的咖啡不如我母親煮的好。

2)形容詞比較級可與than連用：

The new towerblocks are much higher than the old buildings.新建的塔樓群比舊樓房要高得多。

He makes fewermistakes than you(do).他犯的錯比你少。

He is strongerthan I expected.他長得要比我想像的結(jié)實。

It was moreexpensive than I thought.

這比我預(yù)料的昂貴多了。

如省略than…時，英語口語中常用最高級代替比較級：

This is the bestway.這是最好的辦法。

3)三個或三個以上的人或物進(jìn)行比較時，以最高級與the…in/of結(jié)構(gòu)連用的方式來表達(dá)：

This is theoldest theatre in London.

這是倫敦最古老的劇院。

The youngest ofthe family was the most successful.

全家年齡最小的是最有成就的。

4)要表達(dá)兩個事物彼此相應(yīng)增長時可用the+比較級…the+ 比較級這種結(jié)構(gòu)：

House Agent：Do youwant a big house?

房地產(chǎn)經(jīng)紀(jì)人：你想買一棟大房子嗎?

Ann：Yes，the bigger the better.安：是的，越大越好。

Tom：But thesmaller it is，the less it will cost us to heat.

湯姆：可是，房子越小，花的取暖費就越少。

5)一個事物的逐漸增長或減少用兩個由and連接的比較級表示：

The weather isgetting colder and colder.天氣越來越冷了。

He became lessand less interested.他越來越不感興趣。

6)用動名詞或動詞不定式對行為進(jìn)行比較：

Riding a horseis not as easy as riding a motor cycle.

騎馬不像騎摩托那么容易。

It is nicer/morefun to go with someone than to go alone.

偕伴同去比自己獨自去好玩。

7)原級與like(相似，介詞)和alike連用的結(jié)構(gòu)：

Tom is very likeBill.湯姆長得很像比爾。
